Playing music in public after midnight is banned

Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu addressed the reporters in the Police Academy graduation ceremony today (September 8).

As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), Minister Soylu has indicated that with a circular sent to all 81 governor’s offices across Turkey, playing music in public after 12 at night will be banned as of this midnight:

“Similarly, tonight, playing both live music and recorded music with records and playback will be definitely banned in cafeterias and restaurants in 81 provinces. It will end as of 12 at night. We have sent the circular to the governor’s offices. They will take a decision and implement it immediately.”

When will the ban end?

Minister of Interior Soylu has said that “they need such a restriction,” adding that they have to take measures to make sure that people’s workplaces are not closed and they are not confined to their homes. Soylu has not given a definite date as to when the ban will be lifted.

The Minister has also touched upon the recent bans regarding public transportation, which was announced by President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan yesterday.

Soylu has indicated that while there is a ban on standing passengers in public transportation in all provinces, there are still standing passengers in vehicles despite warnings. Emphasizing the necessity of learning separable and manageable rules, he has also noted that security forces will take action depending on the decisions to be taken. (PT/SD)
